About the museum
The Castle Museum is a member institution of the Budapest History Museum which consists of three further museums: the Aquincum Museum and Archaeological Park, the Kiscell Museum, and the Budapest Gallery. Initially founded in 1887 by the Municipality of Budapest, the Budapest History Museum collects, preserves and presents artefacts related to the history Budapest including archaeological finds, modern everyday objects, artworks and many more.
The Castle Museum moved into the former royal palace of Buda in 1967 after the remodeling of the building. The Castle Museum's permanent exhibitions focus primarily on the history of the palace from the middle ages until today, while our temporary exhibits revolve around archaeology, fine art, photography and design. |
